soups for fall

September 28, 2015 by Elizabeth 6 Comments

Garlicky Bean Soup

Even though I love the fun that Summer brings, with visits to the beach, time in the country and just general lazing around, I have a confession to make. I get very excited when the mornings in Rome are cold enough that I have to think about digging out my sweaters. I love fall. It’s my favorite season and I think this partly has to do with the weather, but also about starting a new year.

I realize that New Year’s is a good 3 months away, but I think my mind and body are forever on an academic schedule. And even though it’s been 30 years or so since I left any semblance of school life, I still get excited about things getting back to ‘normal’ . I’m always at my most inspired this time of year, starting new projects, fine tuning old ones. I know April is the time for Spring cleaning, but I always find myself going through closets, painting rooms and airing out linens this time of year.

I also love the food this time of year. By September I am so over grilling.  And if you want to know the truth, I’ve actually had enough tomatoes and zucchini for a while. All I want are long stewed pots bubbling away on the stove. And soup. For me this time of year is all about soup.

As I’ve been going through my soup recipes lately, I  thought that maybe you were getting in the soup mood too? So here is a round up of some of my favorites.

Enjoy!

Yes! We are in the exact same frame of mind right now, down to the cleaning out of closets. I am so happy to finally be able to wear jeans again – I really am very, very tired of “flowy”. And I am even ready to – gasp – put away the linen shirts…

I think for me, autumn is the new year after so many years of living in NYC where autumn was when everything happened: new shows, restaurant and boutique openings. Not to mention all the fashionistas came back in full force!

And bring on the soups! I have already made quite a few of these and they were all tasty…of course.

I’m with you. Autumn is a wonderful time. I love the chill in the air in the early morning and then the warmth of the sun in the afternoon. The evening has a nice nip in the air. Perfect season for soup.Thank you for sharing the recipes.

Thanks for these awesome recipes. I tried out the Chickpea and Zucchini Soup and it was delicious. It’s actually become a firm favourite in our household already.
