garden on the amalfi coast

July 24, 2014 by Elizabeth 13 Comments

Amalfi Garden

Even though my body is back in Rome this week, my soul is still hanging out at a garden on the Amalfi coast. Can you blame me? We spent most of our time last week  in Positano, at a fantastic apartment cleverly rented by Gillian. I’ll be getting to Positano next week, but in the meantime here are a few photos of where we stayed our last night, further down the coast.

The villa, which belongs to a friend of ours,  is set within a private garden. Designed about 50 years ago, it is exquisitely maintained. Huge pines and palms, flowers, lemon groves and quirky statues and fountains all over the place.

The part I loved the most? Hammocks (a truly American touch) hanging in every hidden corner. Those hammocks? That’s where my soul is hanging out this week, even if my mind and body are back here in Rome, in front of my computer.

Hammock on the Amalfi Coast

Sorry, no recipe in this post. I was way too busy relaxing. But I did visit this house a few years ago, and came away with this delicious pasta recipe.

Beautiful. I think my parched New York soul just pinched me. We spent our honeymoon on the Amalfi Coast and these photos bring back so many beautiful memories. I can’t wait to read about Positano next week!

Amalfi Coast. A spectacular place. Everything is blue and green! And cool! Walk of the gods is a special treat too.

I love staying in Positano. But for all Amalfi Coast info, just download the app, Amalfi Coast Essentials. The link is in my sidebar.

I agree that the hammocks are a very nice touch. The garden is beautiful and the views are just unreal. Like a movie set.

Those aren’t just ANY hammocks either, they are Pawley’s Island hammocks from the Lowcountry of South Carolina. In the second pic I can even see the brass id label on the stretcher. That they’d have the world’s best hammocks there after seeing your pictures, isn’t a surprise at all.

Yes they are! Very good eye. In fact, our host kept referring to them as Pawley’s and I didn’t know what he was talking about.

Oh, Pawley’s Island Hammocks are one of those thngs that even after they got popular did not allow their quality to slip. If you ever venture South, Pawley’s Island and the Lowcountry should be on your radar … Charleston’s food scene will wow you.

Absolutely wonderful Elizabeth! Wish we had friends with a villa like this one! The grounds are wonderful…I can just dream of lying on a hammock inhaling the sweet scent of Amalfi lemons…bliss!
