italian restoration {architectural digest}

October 10, 2013 by Elizabeth 13 Comments

Although I often mention my husband, Domenico, as the bringer of such things as freshly cured pancetta, wild boar from Umbria , and other edible goodies, I rarely talk about what he does when not feeding me. He’s an architect and specializes in Italian restoration: things like farmhouses, castles and villages get turned into into homes and hotels. He also was my co-author on my last book, Italian Rustic.

This month, Domenico’s most recent project, a castle in Umbria, is featured in Architectural Digest. The castle belongs to newspaper owner Evgeny Lebedev. Domenico worked on the project with talented interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard and the article, which features before and after shots as well as the super kitchen Domenico designed, is 8 pages long.

Here are the pages, scanned. Sorry for the small scale, but  For copyright issues, Architectural Digest asked that I take the full scanned pages off of the blog. So here are a few shots from the feature that they have graciously agreed to let me use. If you’re curious for all the details, just run out and buy the November issue. Quick! Before they run out!!! And you can read the full article here. And see some more photographs here. And download the full digital version onto your iPad here.

For more information about Italian architectural restoration visit my husband, Domenico Minchilli’s website. You can also buy our books, Italian Rustic and Restoring a Home in Italy., which feature many of Domenico’s other recent projects.

    For those of you overseas and with an iPad, you can download a copy of this months issue via iTunes. That’s what I did.

    I happened upon this article via an article that someone sent me regarding the Ralph Lauren house and I have to tell you, that kitchen is just GORGEOUS. Lucky you to be married to such a creative man

    Well done, Domenico. I still think he should have been on the cover instead of Cindy Crawford!

    Thanks all! Domenico is indeed very proud, as am I. And yes, I agree: it should have been him rather than Cindy Crawford on the cover!

    Can’t get over the pictures. Beautiful restoration done. I wish they would let you use the scanned copies here itself… would have been easier. Still, awesome work. You guys are a very talented couple.
