my figs

August 27, 2011 by Elizabeth 12 Comments

I usually don’t post over the weekends. First of all, I like to take a break too. Also, I figure not a lot of people are looking at blogs during their time off? I know this doesn’t make sense, but aren’t you more likely to browse through your favorite blogs when you’re supposed to be doing something else. Like working maybe?

Anyway. I’ve decided to do short posts over the weekends that are mostly photos that don’t need much in the way of words to go with them.

So. Here are my figs. We’ve got about 12 trees in Todi, and they are bursting at the moment. I’m sorry I’m not there to indulge myself. I’m back in Rome. At work. Thinking about figs.

Actually, when I am working, I am nowhere near a computer, but rather painting or plastering on a ladder- so thanks for the weekend photos- always inspiring!

My husband looks forward to his birthday (August 23rd) because that means the first figs are ready. It becomes a matter of timing as to who gets to them first- the birds/bees or him! This year he won.

@Denise: Where are you staying? Are you in Todi for vacation?

I am just jealous that you find time to post at all at your summer place. I don’t know how you do it. This year, between the kids, family, an earth quake and a hurricane, I was the worst blogger ever!

Actually, if I had figs like those weighing down my trees, I wouldn’t be thinking about anything else. Wow, Elizabeth, che bellezza!!
Are you planning on making some jam? Throw in some ginger for zing; or white grapes instead of sugar.

Ciao bella, and thanks for stopping by over at my “place” for cocktails 😉

@Eleonora: Jam is a great idea, except that I’m not a huge fan of fig jam. That said, Domenico loves it and we also have tons of white grapes. So if there are any figs left by the time we go up in a week, I very well may be jamming it up.

Gorgeous figs. I am jealous, our trees did not produce anything in September.

What colour – they’re luminous! I’d give anything for a fig tree.

I actually have a fig tree growing outside of my office here in Rome, on the street. We planted it a few years ago and it’s huge now!

I understand not liking fig jam, It seems ungrateful to waste those beauties on jam. However, if mixed with strawberries most people will be unable to tell the difference, those tiny fig seeds marry with the berries and it works. A drop of color makes it intense. Try a batch!
