taste 2013 {march 9-11 florence}

February 28, 2013 by Elizabeth 2 Comments

I’ve had the great good luck of attending one of the best food fairs in Italy the last two years: Taste. The fair takes place in Florence and is an ‘invitation only’ event. No, n
ot for the people who attend, but for the folks who display their wares. That means that it’s not too big, is highly curated and what is on display is the best of the best.

Taste 2013 takes place this year on March 9-11, in Florence. As always, there will be lots going on not only in the Stazione Leopoldo, where the fair takes place, but also around town at the hundreds of special meals, tastings and events organized by Fuori di Taste.

It’s organized a bit differently than most fairs. You pay to attend, which is a good thing. This means that it is not as horribly crowded as some fairs get. Also, after you’ve finished tasting your way around the exhibitors, you’ll find all of their wares for sale in the super organized shop located just before you leave. So yes, this is a shopping day.

I’ve written tons about this fair in the past. About all the deliciousness I’ve discovered, tasted, bought and brought home. To give you a better idea of how it all works, here are my posts from the past two editions:

The fair takes place over the weekend of March 9.

If you are in the food business, you can attend during the mornings of Saturday and Sunday. The fair then opens to the general public from 12 on.

Have a look at the line up of special dinners and events around town, and make your reservations early. The good ones book up quickly!

    Big sigh. Didn’t I write last year that I was hoping to go this year? Well, I can hope for the next!

    Oh, but this sounds like a dream vacation to me. I will, however, have to content myself with your “missives from the food front.” Have a wonderful time, and do report back frequently.
