a week in rome with melissa clark

June 2, 2017 by Elizabeth 4 Comments

One of the biggest joys of writing about food are the people I get to meet. While I often share stories of food producers, cooks, farmers and restaurant owners, there is another group of people that I rarely write about. Other writers.

From the very beginning of my career I’ve been lucky enough to call a superbly gifted, talented and fun group of people my colleagues. And among those colleagues, many have become true and dear friends. I first met Melissa Clark on a whacky, limoncello and pizza-filled press trip to Salerno over 15 years ago. I’m happy to say we’ve been eating, cooking and drinking together every since.

If you don’t know Melissa (but I”m thinking you probably do) she is a food writer and cookbook author, and is staff reporter for the New York Time’s Food section, where she writes the popular column “A Good Appetite” and is the star of a wildly popular series of videos. She has also just published her 38th (!) cookbook. Her cooking is informed by cuisines from all over the world, but no country – and its food – is dearer to her heart than Italy.

I’m writing about Melissa today, not just to tell you how fun and talented she is, but to let you know that she will be coming to Rome in March 2018 to help me lead a Week in Rome tour!! We’ve developed a special Week in March 2018 where Melissa, Sophie and I will be leading a group not only around Rome, but into the countryside as well. We’ll be visiting the markets and restaurants in town, but also taking advantage of Melissa’s special talents. We’ll not only be cooking with her in the kitchen, but will also get a chance to discuss things like meal planning, entertaining tips as well as how to transform complicated restaurant recipes into something you will want to cook at home. There will be many meals in restaurants and enoteche, lots of gelato and aperitivi, and perhaps way to much fun.

Details:

When: March 18-24, 2018

Who: Space is limited to 10 people.

Where: We’ll be based in the Monti neighborhood, one of Rome’s most characteristic and charming areas. You will be staying in a private apartment, complete with kitchen, wifi, bedroom and sitting room.

What: The days will be full, with adventures both in and out of Rome. But don’t worry, you’ll have some down time as well, to head off on your own to explore.

Some of the things we’ll be doing:

Welcome dinner in our private cooking space, Monti Kitchen
Tour of the Food Artisans of Trastevere
Private tour and lunch at the American Academy of Rome
2 cooking classes with Melissa
Dinner at the local pizzeria
Market walk and Cooking Class
Cheese and Wine Tasting Dinner
Day Trip to Orvieto and a cheese maker
and more….
I hope you can come join Melissa, Sophie and me for this delicious Week in Rome. Would you like more information? Just send me an email.

I only wish we were not coming in September to make this event. I have made many of Melissa’s recipients and follow her videos in The NY Times. I am glad I just finished eating because the photos on your blog made my mouth water. Grazie.
