roses for your monday

May 16, 2011 by Elizabeth 6 Comments

Mondays are a drag. After the weekend, it’s back to work. And even if you enjoy your work (and I do) I know that sometimes it’s hard to get up and get going. So today, as my Monday morning present to you, I’m posting some pure, unadulterated, drop dead gorgeous rose porn.

The roses you see here are among the over forty varieties we’ve planted over the years at our house in Todi. As you can see, they are as happy there as we are. I have to admit that the most difficut part about planting them was choosing which ones we wanted. We mostly stuck to old varieties. A lot are noisettes, teas and chinas. Many (most) we got through Walter Branchi who no longer grows roses professionally. Some of the others we ordered from Barni and some come from Rose & Rose Emporium. There are a few David Austins here and there. And just a handful of hybrids.

In May and June the roses burst into bloom and ever year it blows me away. Last week I decided to just pick up and spend five days up in Todi. Partly to do some work on the house. But really? It was a great excuse to hang out with my roses.

Rose porn. Just because I can.

Just lovely–I can almost smell the scent wafting through your pictures!

We had such bitter cold her in Santa Fe this past winter that I lost some of my roses and a few others had to be severely pruned back to make room for the new shoots to make it past the dead stalks. Plus it is too early for roses here which makes looking at yours a treat.

Oh my. Over forty varieties and each one more beautiful than the next. Sigh. So delighted that you found the excuse to share it with us in full glory.

A little late in responding to your post; however, I wanted to let you know you almost took my breath away, with the beauty of these gorgeous roses!
Unfortunately, I can only imagine, the wonderful pleasure it would be, to enjoy your warm sunny garden, in person!
